The Search for Rachel, a father's journal |
|
Introduction
On January 10, 2002, our beloved daughter Rachel disappeared while jogging in our neighborhood. We reported her disappearance to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office the following day. A massive search and investigation was launched. In late February of 2002, I was approached by Jerry White from KVUE, a local television station. He had created a special section on Rachel's disappearance on their web site, kvue.com. Mr. White asked me if I would be willing to keep an on-line journal on kvue.com. I agreed to do so. Beginning February 24, 2002, I began to record what I did and saw. Mr. White told me that up to 10,000 hits per day were being recorded on my journal. After encouragement from friends and family, I wrote my memories from January 10, 2002, the day that Rachel disappeared, to February 23, 2002. It was very difficult to relive the worst days of my life but I thought a record needed to be made. I do want to warn people that the journal is not an easy read. I wrote the entries from my heart and there are many painful comments enclosed. I dedicate this journal to Rachel, our first-born child. I also dedicate it to my wife Janet, my daughter JoAnn, the rest of my friends and family and those who searched, debriefed, reported, investigated, donated and all of the other things needed. I made Rachel a promise in January 2002 to find her and the lowlife animal that took her. This journal is part of that promise. Robert Cooke Rachel's father |
