The Search for Rachel, a father's journal

Tuesday, March 1 through Sunday, March 6

A couple of woman have disappeared in Texas this week. Bonnie Ann Duncan is missing from Andrews, Texas, and Iris "Hootie" Owens is missing from the Dallas, Texas, area. Texas EquuSearch worked the Duncan search, and she was found safe. United Response Team is working the Owens search, Iris' flyer.

The next law enforcement CEO and first responder classes will be in two weeks. I plan to stay there for both classes. There is one day between the classes, so we should be able to see part of the area. I've never been there.

Monday March 7 through Sunday, March 13

I'm sorry to say that Iris Owens' body was found this week near her abandoned car. From all appearances it looks like the car became stuck, and Iris was walking for help. My thoughts and prayers go out to Iris's family and friends.

Tim Miller, the director of Texas EquuSearch, was hospitalized this week. The last I heard was that Tim was getting some much needed rest. Please pray for Tim's quick recovery.

I may have to shut down the guest book on Rachel's web site. Several spam messages are being left, and I have to constantly delete them. Even blocking IP addresses doesn't seem to slow them down.

Monday, March 14 through Sunday, March 20

I flew to Seattle on Saturday for two missing adult classes for law enforcement. Sunday we started the CEO class. Twenty-five CEOs attended the class. My friend Jackie Jacobs watched my victim impact section. Jackie's brother Kent has been missing since March 10, 2002.

The students in the CEO class came from Washington state, Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin, and there was even one student from Vancouver, British Columbia. I think all of the students learned at least a few things from the class.

Monday, March 21 through Sunday, March 27

I was able to relax on Tuesday and see some of the sites of Seattle. Another instructor for the missing person training class and I went to the top of the Space Needle, toured the Science Fiction Museum, and took a ferry to one of the many islands in Puget Sound.

Wednesday the first responder course began. I presented my victim impact statement in the morning and left for the airport around noon. It was good to get home, but the trip was very necessary.

Tuesday, March 28 through Thursday. March 31

On Tuesday I flew to South Bend, Indiana, to speak at the missing person training course there. Over 20 law enforcement officers attended the class, which was held on the Notre Dame University campus. I flew back to Austin Wednesday night.
