The Search for Rachel, a father's journal

Sunday, May 1, 2005 through Sunday May 8, 2005

I flew to Pomona, California on Wednesday for another first responder missing person training course for law enforcement. There were 27 students in the class from California, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, and even from Winnipeg, Canada.

Tuesday, May 10 will be Rachel's twenty third birthday. This will be the fourth birthday since she disappeared. I started a section on Rachel's Message board to allow people to leave messages for Rachel and our family.

Monday, May 9 through Sunday, May 15

Over fifty women and teens attended our South Austin M.U.S.T. self-defense and awareness seminar this Sunday. Chief Deborah Brown taught both the beginner and advanced seminars. I had to play the "bad guy" because Deborah's brother, Dan, had a previous commitment.

We have another M.U.S.T. beginner seminar scheduled in Elgin this Thursday night from 7:00-9:00 p.m. All of the Rachel Alert sponsored M.U.S.T. seminars are free. More information may be found at rachelalert.org/must.

Monday, May 16 through Sunday, May 22

I asked the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to submit a request to register Rachel at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Since Suzanne's Law went into effect last year, the National Center for Missing Adults now handles missing persons up to age 20. My friends Doug and Mary Lyall are responsible for the hard work in having the law passed to help protect our younger college-aged students.

Thirty-three women and teens attended our Thursday night M.U.S.T. self-defense and awareness seminar in Elgin. That's a good response for a smaller community.

Our next M.U.S.T. seminar will take place at the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, June 12. The beginners seminar will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m., followed by an advanced seminar from 3:30-5:00 p.m. More information may be found on rachelalert.org/must.

Janet and I attended the Miss Georgetown Pageant Saturday night. The pageant directors choose Rachel Alert Network to receive the proceeds from their People's Choice Award. We would like to thank the pageant for its support of RAN and our community.

Monday, May 23 through Tuesday, May 31

I spent this week catching up on personal business which has stacked up over the last two months. March and April were extremely busy, and I traveled a lot. In June Rachel Alert Network has only one M.U.S.T. seminar scheduled.

In July the National Center for Missing Adults missing person training classes will resume. The July class is in Modesto, CA. This class will contain a special section study on the Laci Peterson case. Other classes are scheduled this year in Oregon, Colorado, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Texas. I hope we have enough registrations to teach all of these classes.
