Texas EquuSearch arrived to organize a new search on Thursday, January 17. Working closely with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, they began deploying teams of volunteers the next morning, and a massive daily effort that continued through suspension of activities on Thursday, January 31, 2002. A group of local citizens intends to continue some search efforts. Texas EquuSearch was called to another search for a missing teenager in the Houston area, but will still be available to the Sheriff's office to coordinate any further search activities as requested. Participation from concerned citizens, agencies and businesses in the Georgetown/Williamson County community has been incredible, with hundreds of volunteers asking for search assignments. Other SAR teams from across Texas have also traveled to Georgetown to lend their considerable expertise and experience. Some of these teams are US Regional Search Dogs (Houston), Travis County Search & Rescue (Austin), San Antonio's Blacksun Search & Rescue Canine Team, K9 SAR of Texas (Houston), ChildWatch (Houston), and the Lower Colorado River Authority with their Mobile Command Center (stationed in Burnet County). A special appreciation goes out to Rev. John Selle and the parishioners of the Faith Lutheran Church for allowing the search HQ to be established there. It has been very disruptive to their normal activities having several hundred people and horses, etc. congregating there for deployment. It takes many coordinated efforts to implement these search efforts. Rachel's family and friends have been very active in helping with the search efforts. Texas EquuSearch and all the searchers have been well supplied with delicious home cooked food and beverages. Many local stores and restaurants are sending supplies, pizzas, sandwiches, fried chicken, even dog food for the search dogs, etc. There has been an unmatched outpouring of support for the effort. Everyone is determined to stay the course in any way they can help, to bring Rachel home. |
