Rachel Cooke's Tsunami Relief FundJanuary 10, 2005, marked three years since 19-year-old Rachel Cooke disappeared while jogging in her parents' Georgetown neighborhood. In lieu of a remembrance ceremony for Rachel, the Cooke family has decided to make a donation in Rachel's name to aid the victims of the Asian tsunami crisis. The public is invited to contribute to the donation fund. Thousands of people were killed or injured in this disaster. Countless others are missing or have lost their homes. Another huge problem which is developing in the disaster area is the kidnapping and sexual slavery of children and women. With so many homeless adults and orphan children it is easy for the creeps who exploit them to take advantage of the situation. More than just food, shelter, and clothing are needed. We can also help to provide security by giving generously. All of the donations will be routed to an international agency such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army, or Save the Children. Texas EquuSearch made a search and rescue trip to Sri Lanka in January, 2005. TES was invited to help search for missing persons there. U.S. Congressman Nick Lampson and the International Foundation for Revitalization, Empowerment, Education and Development supported TES trip but they still need additional financial donations to help cover the cost of the trip. |
